In this recipe, we'll show you how to make an authentic Mediterranean Falafel that's crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with flavors.
Rinse the soaked chickpeas and add them to a food processor. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped parsley, chopped cilantro, cumin, coriander, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Pulse the mixture until it's well blended and has a coarse texture.
Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and add the all-purpose flour. Mix well until the mixture can be formed into balls without falling apart.
Using your hands, form the mixture into small balls (about 1.5 inches in diameter).
In a deep fryer or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F. Carefully add the falafel balls to the hot oil and fry for about 3-4 minutes, until golden brown.
Once the falafel balls are cooked, transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
To serve, stuff the falafel balls into a pita bread with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, and tahini sauce.
Notes
Note: Falafel can also be served on a plate with a side of hummus, baba ghanoush, or tzatziki sauce. It's a versatile dish that can be customized with different toppings and sauces.Slow Cooker Instructions:Falafel is traditionally deep-fried, but it can also be baked or air-fried for a healthier option. To bake falafel in a slow cooker, preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Form the chickpea mixture into balls, place them on the baking sheet, and brush with oil. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
