In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar with an electric mixer or whisk until soft peaks form.
Add the mascarpone cheese to the bowl and beat until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
In a small bowl, combine the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur (if using).
Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure to coat both sides, and arrange them in a single layer in the bottom of an 8x8 inch baking dish.
