Instructions
Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes or until fragrant.
Crush whole peeled tomatoes by hand or with a potato masher and add them to the saucepan.
Add dried oregano and salt and pepper to taste.
Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon.
Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
If desired, stir in chopped fresh basil leaves.
Serve hot over your favorite pasta dish.
