Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate mixing bowl, beat together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until the dough comes together.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll it out to a thickness of 1/4 inch.
Use a knife or pizza cutter to cut the dough into squares or rectangles.
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F.
Carefully place the dough squares into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until they're golden brown.
Remove the beignets from the oil using a slotted spoon or spider strainer and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Dust the beignets with powdered sugar and serve immediately.
