Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F.
Grease a 9-inch square baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
In a mixing bowl, beat the butter until creamy using a hand mixer or stand mixer.
Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter and beat until well combined.
In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, beating until well combined.
Spread the cake batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
In a separate mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until creamy using a hand mixer or stand mixer.
Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter to the cream cheese and beat until well combined.
Gradually add the powdered sugar to the cream cheese mixture, beating until smooth and creamy.
Pour the cream cheese mixture over the cake batter in the baking pan, spreading it evenly.
Bake the gooey butter cake for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is still slightly jiggly.
Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
Once cooled, dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar.
Slice and serve the gooey butter cake.
