Baklava is a delicious treat that is perfect for special occasions, holidays, or just as a sweet indulgence. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a dessert that's sure to impress.
In a food processor, pulse the walnuts, almonds, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon until coarsely ground.
Set aside.
For the syrup:
In a small saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, water, honey, and cinnamon stick.
Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved.
Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until it has thickened slightly.
Remove the cinnamon stick and set the syrup aside.
For the baklava:
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Brush the bottom and sides of a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
Place 1 sheet of phyllo dough in the bottom of the baking dish and brush it with melted butter.
Repeat this process with 5 more sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
Sprinkle half of the nut mixture evenly over the top of the phyllo dough.
Repeat the layering process with the remaining phyllo dough and melted butter, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
Sprinkle the remaining nut mixture over the top of the phyllo dough.
Brush the top layer of phyllo dough with melted butter.
Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond shapes.
Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the baklava is golden brown.
Remove the baklava from the oven and immediately drizzle the syrup over the top.
Sprinkle the finely chopped pistachios over the top of the baklava.
Let the baklava cool to room temperature before serving.
