  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, beat together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until the dough comes together.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll it out to a thickness of 1/4 inch.
  • Use a knife or pizza cutter to cut the dough into squares or rectangles.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F.
  • Carefully place the dough squares into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until they're golden brown.
  • Remove the beignets from the oil using a slotted spoon or spider strainer and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • Dust the beignets with powdered sugar and serve immediately.
