Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a saucepan, bring water, cubed butter, salt, and black pepper to a boil over medium heat.
  • Add all-purpose flour to the saucepan and stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough comes together and forms a ball.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and let the dough cool for a couple of minutes.
  • Add eggs to the dough, one at a time, stirring well after each addition until fully incorporated.
  • Mix in the grated Gruyère cheese until well combined.
  • If you have a pastry bag, transfer the dough into it. Otherwise, you can use a spoon to drop tablespoon-sized portions of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each Gougère.
  • Bake the Gougères in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until they turn golden brown and puffed.
  • Remove the Gougères from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.
