Homemade Sushi Recipe
Equipment
- Sushi Mat (Makisu)
- Bamboo Rice Paddle (Shamoji)
- Plastic Wrap (Cling Film)
- Bowl Of Water For Dipping Hands
Ingredients
- 2 cup Sushi Rice
- 1/4 cup Rice Vinegar
- 2 tbsp Granulated Sugar
- 1 tsp Salt
- Nori Seaweed Sheets
- Soy Sauce For Dipping
For Serving:
Instructions
- Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to package instructions.
- While the rice is cooking, in a small saucepan, heat the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt over low heat until the sugar and salt dissolve. Set aside to cool.
- Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and slowly drizzle the vinegar mixture over the rice. Gently fold the rice with a bamboo rice paddle until well coated and let it cool to room temperature.
- Place the sushi mat on a cutting board and cover it with plastic wrap to prevent sticking. Lay a sheet of nori on top of the mat.
- Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking and evenly spread a thin layer of sushi rice onto the nori, leaving about 1 inch at the top without rice.
- Arrange your desired fillings in a row across the rice, slightly off-center.
- Using the sushi mat as a guide, tightly roll the sushi, applying gentle pressure to create a compact roll.
- Repeat steps 4-7 with the remaining ingredients.
- Once the rolls are complete, use a sharp knife to slice them into bite-sized pieces.
- Serve the sushi with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger for dipping.
