Ingredients
For The Filling:
- 1 cup Walnuts
- 1 cup Almonds
- 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
For The Syrup:
- 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1/2 cup Water
- 1/2 cup Honey
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
For The Baklava:
- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Melted
- 12 sheet Phyllo Dough sheet
- 1/4 cup Pistachios Finely Chopped
Instructions
For the filling:
- In a food processor, pulse the walnuts, almonds, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon until coarsely ground.
- Set aside.
For the syrup:
- In a small saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, water, honey, and cinnamon stick.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until it has thickened slightly.
- Remove the cinnamon stick and set the syrup aside.
For the baklava:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Brush the bottom and sides of a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Place 1 sheet of phyllo dough in the bottom of the baking dish and brush it with melted butter.
- Repeat this process with 5 more sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Sprinkle half of the nut mixture evenly over the top of the phyllo dough.
- Repeat the layering process with the remaining phyllo dough and melted butter, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Sprinkle the remaining nut mixture over the top of the phyllo dough.
- Brush the top layer of phyllo dough with melted butter.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond shapes.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the baklava is golden brown.
- Remove the baklava from the oven and immediately drizzle the syrup over the top.
- Sprinkle the finely chopped pistachios over the top of the baklava.
- Let the baklava cool to room temperature before serving.
