- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Cold And Cut Into Small Pieces
- 2 1/4 1/4tsp Active Dry Yeast (1 pocket)
- 1/2 cup Whole Milk Warm
- 1 Egg Large, At Room Temperature
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract Pure
For The Filling (Choose One Or A Combination):
- Fruit Preserves (Apricot, Raspberry, Or Your Favorite Flavor)
- Cream Cheese Mixed With Powdered Sugar And Vanilla Extract
- Almond Or Other Nut Fillings
For The Glaze:
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar
- 2 tbsp Milk
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract Pure
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Add the cold butter pieces to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or an electric mixer with a paddle attachment to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for a few minutes until frothy.
- Add the yeast mixture, egg, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until the dough comes together.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it gently for a few minutes until smooth.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll out each portion into a rectangle.
- Spread your chosen filling(s) evenly over the rectangles, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Roll up each rectangle tightly, starting from the long side, to form a log.
- Cut the logs into slices, about 1 inch thick, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover the Danish pastries with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for about 15-20 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) while the pastries are rising.
- Bake the Danish pastries in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown and flaky.
- While the pastries cool slightly, prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the pastries before serving.
