Ingredients
For The Cake:
- 1 cup Semolina
- 1 cup Unsweetened Coconut Flakes
- 1 cup Plain Yogurt
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Melted
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the semolina, coconut flakes, sugar, melted butter, plain yogurt, baking powder, salt, and vanilla extract. Stir until well combined.
- Pour the mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish and smooth it out with a spoon.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, make the syrup. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the syrup thickens slightly.
- When the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and pour the syrup over the top. Let it soak for at least 30 minutes.
- Cut the Basbousa into squares and serve.
