  • Heat a large skillet or sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces with a wooden spoon or spatula.
  • Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Transfer the beef mixture to a slow cooker, if using.
  • Add the kidney beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper to the slow cooker. Stir well to combine.
  • Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours.
  • Serve hot, topped with your favorite optional toppings.

Optional Stovetop Instructions:

  • If you prefer to make this recipe on the stovetop, simply follow steps 1 and 2 as written.
  • Add the remaining ingredients to the skillet and simmer over low heat for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Adjust the seasoning to taste and serve hot.
